FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I FAILED the first time. I followed common advice given by others. I realized instantly that it was flawed when I entered the exam and I ended up failing by about 7-9 questions. I changed my strategies and scored 160 points higher the second time (380 to 540). All of my insights and EFFICIENCY driven strategies are now in the PBR. There is truly nothing else like it on the market.

WHAT IS THE PASS RATE FOR PEDIATRICS BOARD REVIEW (PBR)?

For the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Maintenance of Certification exam (aka MOC, or recertification exam), the pass rate has been 100% for many years. For any years in which the pass rate was not 100%, the maximum number of first-time failures that we were notified of was 2.

For the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Initial Certification board exam, the national pass rate for first-time test takers has traditionally been about 80-85% (as reported by the ABP). PBR has a 100% Money Back First-Time Pass Guarantee, and less than 0.05% of our members have ever asked for their money back. Based on this information, PBR's first-time pass rate is estimated at well above 95%.

Because of how streamlined and efficient the PBR materials are, PBR is the perfect resource for first-time test takers as well as anyone who has failed. We have a high first-time pass rate, but we have also helped MANY pediatricians finally pass the boards after they previously failed the pediatric board exam once, twice, three times, four times, five times and even SIX times using other resources. ASHISH, DID YOU TAKE A BOARD REVIEW COURSE?

I went through a popular DVD course. In hindsight, it was a HORRIBLE use of my precious time. Like most study materials on the market, it was simply too overwhelming to allow for 3-5 quality reviews in a timely manner. The other popular resource that I had was MUCH too basic to allow for exposure to all of the board-relevant high-yield topics.

I'VE HEARD THERE’S A COURSE IN *** CALLED THE *** THAT OFFERS A 100% GUARANTEE. HAVE YOU HEARD OF IT?

I’ve seen their paid advertisements on Google and read some reviews about it online. When I start to hear people talking about taking courses and watching DVDs, I get worried that they’re setting themselves up for failure because they’re spreading themselves too thin (the number 2 reason most people fail). To some degree, “less is more” for this exam. Focus on an excellent primary resource and know it inside and out!

DO YOU WRITE QUESTIONS FOR THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PEDIATRICS EXAM?

Even though I failed the first time, I did so well the second time around that the ABP asked ME to write questions for them! It's a little insane, but I was happy to contribute several.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT PEDIATRIC PREP QUESTIONS WRITTEN BY THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS (AAP)?

I think they are most representative of the questions you'll see on the boards, BUT there are MANY caveats! When it comes to PREP questions, please read the following CRITICAL articles:

I'M A HORRIBLE TEST TAKER! DO YOU ALSO TEACH TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES?

YES! There is no physician-taught course that specifically addresses how to use TEST-TAKING TECHNIQUES to increase your board scores. The PBR Core Concepts in Test-Taking Strategies Webinar helps you instantly increase your board scores. You even learn how to quickly eliminate answer choices WITHOUT reading the clinical vignettes and WITHOUT having significant medical knowledge about the disease process.

The PBR Core Study Guide is also FILLED with strategies, "PEARLS," links to high-yield images and mnemonics to help you EFFICIENTLY study for and pass your pediatric board exam.

CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME FREE SAMPLES?

Just fill out the from below and you’ll get two COMPLETE chapters (in full) directly from the PBR Core Study Guide. They’ll even be in PDF format so can print them out.

IS THE ONLINE CORE STUDY GUIDE AND Q&A BOOK IN A PDF FORMAT?

The free material is in a downloadable PDF format, the paid membership includes PDF-style flipbook formats of both books, and a searchable format of the Core Study Guide as well, but it cannot be downloaded to your computer. Take a look:

DOES THE PEDIATRICS BOARD REVIE W (PBR) MATER IAL FOLLOW THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PEDIATRICS CONTENT SPECIFICATIONS?

When it comes to PBR’s system to help you pass, I see the ABP content specifications for the pediatric boards as “outside material.” I’d say 80-90% of the content specifications are covered in the PBR material. However, my strong recommendation is that you do not get caught up with trying to cover every single topic in the content specs. PBR has has more than enough information in it to help you pass. Once you have used and mastered the PBR “roadmap to success” that’s outline in the front of the book, then start looking at “outside material.”

HOW LONG DOES MY ACCESS LAST?

Most of our resources come with 12 months of access except for those resources that are specifically said to include access for other lengths of time (e.g., multi-year subscriptions, lifetime access, etc.). For some resources, online access to certain portions of a course may become limited after it has been used. For example, our Full Online Test-Taking Strategies Course offers 7 videos. Once a video is "unlocked," you have viewing and replay access for up to 7 days for that video. The next video will stay "locked" until you're ready to watch it, or until your 1 year membership expires. If you have any questions about a specific resource, please contact us now.

WHY DON’T YOU OFFER A 100% MONEY BACK PASS GUARANTEE FOR SECOND-TIME TEST-TAKERS?

The American Board of Pediatrics initial certification exam is very tough. It's not uncommon to hear of pediatricians failing multiple times. Before the American Board of Pediatrics placed a 7-year limit on the time after residency that you are allowed to take the exam, someone even emailed me to let me know that they had failed ELEVEN times. Since the rule change, we commonly hear of people coming to PBR after they have failed 3, 4, 5, 6 and even SEVEN times.

So, we work diligently to guide them to a pass, but it's clear that if you fail this exam once, your chances of failing again are much higher than a first-time test-taker. Also, we've found that there is a tremendous difference between access and execution. Even those with the best of intentions often struggle with self-accountability to follow through with the plans we lay out for them. And many pediatricians with history of failing board exams tend to struggle with test-anxiety and other personal factors that fall under a unique set of challenged. So, while we can provide a proven roadmap to success, offer private consultation calls, and a live course, there are many more pieces that must come from the individual and are out of our control. For this reason, we do not offer a Money Back First-Time Pass Guarantee for repeat test-takers.

Having said that, we've helped many members pass after 3, 4, 5, 6 and even SEVEN times. I don't know of any "traditional" board review company that can say that. Our results are not surprising given the amount of time that we spend on our unique and personalized approach towards helping you pass. Especially with our high-risk members, we have a very guided approach to support them to the best of our ability.

So, while a Money Back First-Time Pass Guarantee can't be offered, we do offer a FEW OTHER GUARANTEES. If you are a repeat test-taker and you fail after purchasing the PBR Ultimate Bundle Pack, or a higher level resource, we’ll do the following:

To qualify, simply visit the guarantee page and register all of your product in the same time frame requested for first-time test takers.

I'M NERVOUS ABOUT JUMPING IN. IF I BUY THE ULTIMATE BUNDLE PACK BUT RETURN THE HARDCOPY BOOKS, WHAT WOULD THE REFUND BE?

Nervous? Well then Please download TWO FREE CHAPTERS from PBR NOW to see if the PBR systems, resources and community is right for you BEFORE you buy!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT STUDYING WITH OTHERS? CAN YOU HELP ME FIND AN ONLINE STUDY PARTNER?

I think joining forces with a study buddy is an excellent idea! That’s why I created PBR’s Discord Community! PBR members can use it to interact with each other, ask questions, share mnemonics, successes, fears, everything! It’s pretty awesome.

DO YOU HAVE A PEDIATRIC BOARD EXAM FORUM?

The PBR's Discord Community! is an extremely interactive community of NEW and EXPERIENCED pediatricians filled with peers who are TAKING the exam this year AND with peers who recently TOOK the exam.

Traditional forums are difficult to navigate and keep up with. The PBR's Discord Community! sends you an email notification as soon as a response comes in to your question. There’s encouragement and genuine educational and emotional support to keep you pushing through!

I simply can’t recommend it enough.

HOW MANY QUESTIONS COME IN YOUR PEDIATRIC QUESTION AND ANSWER BOOK?

We're not interested in making or selling “fluff.” Good questions take time to create. PBR offers 50 extremely high yield questions that are EXCELLENT, and they cost LESS than $1 per question.

PBR members often comment on how the structure of the PRB questions remarkably mirrors the questions found on the American Board of Pediatrics initial certification and recertification exams.

It’s completely worth it. Plus, some of the material covered in the Q&A book is NOT in the Core Study Guide. I hope to create more questions soon. Regardless, please note that PBR’s Q&A book should NOT be considered practice material, but rather CORE study content.

I’VE HEARD THAT THE PBR SYSTEMS LIKE TO FOCUS ON EFFICIENCY. CAN YOU GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE?

If you download the free PBR chapters from this page, you'll immediately understand how PBR focuses on EFFICIENCY.

I try to make sure that there is almost NO need for you to cross-reference topics across multiple study resources or chapters.

For example, while you’re studying about one of the “Diamond” diseases (e.g. Diamond Blackfan), you’ll also see notes about the other “Diamond” disease (e.g. Schwachman Diamond) right next to it as a reminder of other similarly named diseases. You’ll also be given a review of that subject, right there and then.

Another HUGE example has to do with images. Most people use Zitelli as an atlas. If you have to reading about a topic in my study guide, then look it up in Zitelli’s index and then reading about it in Zitelli, you’ll spend an hour reading about one topic. That’s extremely inefficient and adds countless hours to the > 200 hours most people spend studying for the exam. I’ve included high-quality image web-links to topics throughout the core study guide for quick referencing so that the process is streamlined and not redundant.

ARE THE PEDIATRICS BOARD REVIEW (PBR) ONLINE RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON THE APPLE IPHONE, IPAD, AMAZON KINDLE, G OOGLE ANDROID, SAMSUNG GALAXY OR OTHER WEB-ENABLED PHONES AND TABLETS?

YES. It’s actually pretty cool. You can search for a SINGLE word within the 2000 topics and find it within seconds. If you choose a membership level that offers desktop access, you also instantly get access to the Core Study Guide by phone or tablet as well. The materials cannot be downloaded, and the Q&A book is only viewable on Flash enabled devices and desktops. Check it out!

In the future, Pediatrics Board Review will also release iPad-enabled iBooks and Kindle ready ebooks as well.

Again, there’s NO extra charge for access on your web-enabled devices once you become an online member.

IS PBR A GOOD RESOURCE TO USE FOR THE PEDIATRIC RECERTIFICATION MOC EXAM?

PBR's pass rate has been 100% for multiple consecutive years for the pediatric recertification exam! for the

The information you need to know is the exact same for the initial and the recertification exams. I have written questions for the pediatric recertification exam.

Based on the American Board of Pediatrics’ requested format, it is my very strong belief that the pool of questions is the same. BUT, I do think that the recertification exam questions tend to be the ones that are more straightforward. That means you will not need to know as much detail for pediatric subspecialties.

DO ONLINE MEMBERSHIPS EXPIRE?

For most of our resources, memberships expires after 12 months. Some (rare) resources come with lifetime access (defined as 20 years, or until the resource is no longer produced by Pediatrics Board Review). If you're looking for an extension, try clicking the UPGRADE button in the membership area. Or, just email us before your membership expires!

WHAT ARE THE SHIPPING TIMES FOR THE HARDCOPY BOOKS?

Standard Shipping: Estimated delivery times are between 7-14 business days. Team PBR technically doesn't work on the weekends, but sometimes we can't help ourselves! Therefore, people often get their books within 7 regular days.

Expedited Shipping: The estimated delivery times are 5-7 business days. Again, customers sometimes receive their books in as little as 5 regular days.

Please note that all shipping times are estimates. Weather, high volume seasons for mail (like Christmas), and other factors that are out of our control can affect delivery times.
